On November 2023, Ugandan international coach and former Player Jackson Mayanja was appointed as the Rwanda topflight side Sunrise Fc as their new head coach.
This comes after few days as the club parted ways with coach Muhire Hassan after suffer 3-0 against Rayon sports on day 8 of ongoing Rwanda premier league 2023-2024.
Jackson is not new in Rwandan football as he was the assistant of his relative Mike Mutebi in the As Kigali FC 2022-2023 season, but they were fired due to insufficient performance where in the 13 league games they managed to win only 3, lost 3 and they drew 7 what As Kigali did not tolerate and decided to fire them.
Jackson Mayanja, 54, has been jobless after parting ways with Ugandan first division side KCCA.
Mayanja was also part of the Ugandan under-20 national team as head coach that participated in the Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt.
Sunrise FC found themselves at the bottom of the league table, with only 6 points from 9 games and Mayanja understood the gravity of the situation.
Mayanja’s first challenge awaited him on November 5th at Kigali Pele Stadium, where he would face his former club, As Kigali, on the 10th day of the national league.
