A bilateral meeting on Defence and Security between Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo was convened in Kigali on 13 February 2021 to review security matters and forge a way forward in dealing with security threats affecting both countries and the region.
A delegation comprising senior security officials from DRC led by François Beya, Special Advisor on Security Affairs to H.E. President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi of DRC held a meeting with Rwandan security officials led by the RDF Chief of Defence Staff, Gen J Bosco Kazura.
While officiating the discussions, the RDF Chief of Defence Staff, Gen J Bosco Kazura said that the two-day meeting comes in the wake of “persistent threats that our two countries continue to face, which call for concerted efforts in order to address them effectively”.
He added that with the guidance from the Heads of State of both countries, this forum was tasked to come up with a framework to address common security threats affecting both countries.
The DRC Head of Delegation François Beya emphasised that Rwanda and DRC are one people determined to attain security and development together. The two parties commended the unwavering commitment by the Heads of State of DRC and Rwanda to restore peace and security in the region.
