Football enthusiasts across the Eastern Province will since August watch soccer from state-of-the-art stadiums being constructed across the Province.
Three stadiums under construction in Bugesera, Ngoma and Nyagatare districts in line with the Government’s seven-year programme to promote sports are expected to be completed in August at a tune of $9 million (approximately Rwf8 billion) each.
The 3000-seater stadium in each district will feature an artificial turf, a running track for athletics purposes, volleyball and basketball courts, and a tennis court respectively.
The Bugesera stadium is being built in Nyamata town while Nyagatare stadium is located in Buja Cell, Nyagatare sector.
Ngoma stadium is being built in Kibungo square.
The construction works at all the three stadiums is under undertaken by China Road and Bridge Corporation Limited, a Chinese construction company which started started last year.
The China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), a Chinese construction company is overseeing the funding and construction works of the stadium on a loan that will be repaid by each district in a period of five years.
Each district is expected to repay around $1 million in five instalments in the first year, while in the second year, they will pay $2 million from 2018/19 to 2022/2023 respectively.
Li Jianbo, the CRBC Managing Director, said the company is committed to play a big role in the government’s development programmes in Rwanda.
The company has previously implemented different construction projects including Kigali-Rusumo road, Kigali Urban upgrading project, Kivu Belt Road and Kamembe Airport road, among many other projects implanted in the country since 1974.
“All these projects done by China Road Bridge Construction brought huge benefits to local people and we are so proud and honoured to have participated in building a more prosperous nation. I have faith that together we can build a better Rwanda for the future generation,” Li Jianbo, the CRBC Managing Director said recently.
The acquisition of Ngoma, Bugesera and Nyagatare stadia will be a big boost to the development of general sports in Rwanda.
Bugesera FC in Bugesera District, Sunrise Fc in Nyagatare District and Kirehe Fc in Ngoma District have been struggling finding suitable home venues to host their Azam Rwanda Premier League matches.
The new facilities will come in addition to the existing infrastructures such as 25-000 seater Amahoro Stadium, 9850-seater Stade de Kigali, 5400-seater Umuganda stadium and 8500-seater Huye Stadium.
