CAF CC: Enyimba FC Goalie Ezenwa Optimistic Ahead of Rayon Clash

Nigerian champions Enyimba FC arrived in Kigali on Saturday night, optimistic of a a vital away win against Rayon Sports when both sides face in the first leg of the quarter final round of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday at Stade de Kigali.

Speaking to KT Sports upon Enyimba FC’s arrival on Friday night, Enyimba FC experienced goalkeeper who is also a Super Eagles second-choice goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa said, “We are in Kigali for business. We need a victory such that we can be able to finish them off once they come to Abe for the return leg,”

“We are missing our key captain and striker Mfon Odoh due to various reasons but we are ready to do without him and probably he will be available in the return leg,”

“We are approaching this game as a final to us, so no mistakes will be accommodated,” added Ezenwa.

Other missing players include Ghanaian dup of midfielder Farouk Muhammad and goalie Dauda who are out due to injuries.

Mean while Rayon Sport President Paul Muvunyi told KweséESPN on Friday, “We have what it takes to get to the final,” Muvunyi told. “Our boys have realised that they are good enough to compete with Africa’s best.

“We can eliminate Nigeria’s Enyimba,” he added. “Our players are young and well-motivated to do the job.

We are determined to beat Enyimba here in Kigali by three goals and go to Nigeria for the return leg with a good strategy that will frustrate them,” the president added.

Rayon Sport became Rwanda’s first club to reach the knockout stages of a CAF competition when they defeated Young Africans of Tanzania to finish second in their group behind USM Alger.

They’ve progressed to a double-header against Enyimba, with the two sides set to meet on Sunday at the Stade de Kigali before a return leg in Nigeria a week later.

Rayon will be without influential centre back Manzi Thierry who is suspended after receiving two-bookable cards and midfielder Yannick Mukunzi, who’s serving a suspension for misconduct following his role in a post-match brawl following the draw against USM Alger in July. Mukunzi was fined $10,000 and handed a three-match ban.

The club will be welcoming back goalkeeper Kassim Ndayisenga and Christ Mbondi who have finished serving their two-match bans.

The Rayon Sport-Enyimba Clash kicks-off at 15:00 on Sunday at Stade de Kigali. Fans will have to part away with Rwf. 30,000, RWf. 5000 and Rwf. 3000 to watch the thrilling encounter.
