Rwanda’s U-18 Women team player Bella Murekatete was named in the All-Star Five team after helping Rwanda seal a historical fourth-place at the FIBA U-18 Women’s African Championship which ended on Sunday in Maputo, Mozambique.
Rwanda lost to Angola 46-59 in the 3rd-Place Game on Sunday to finish fourth with Murekatete averaging a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds en route to the country’s historic fourth-place.
Mali claimed their seventh FIBA U18 Women’s African Championship title after edging hosts Mozambique in the final.
Assetou Sissoko and Sika Kone sparked Mali with game-high of 25 points apiece, 11 and 17 rebounds respectively in the winning effort.
On the other side Ester Gomes led the way with team-high 11 points but it was not enough to seal the victory for her side.
Courtesy of qualifying for the Final, both Mali and Mozambique qualified for the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2019.
Murekatete was named in the All-Star Five team which was headlined by Malian Assetou Sissoko who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, joined by Alexia Dizeko (Angola), Filipa Calisto (Mozambique) and Aminata Sangare (Mali).
