Rwandan international Meddie Kagere sunk his fellow country mates at APR Fc as he scored a stoppage time winner to snatch a crucial 2-1 victory for SC Simba in a Group C match played on Monday in Tanzania.
The winning goal was Kagere’s maiden goal at SC Simba following his recruitment from Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC last week.
The military side looked on course for their first victory after they broke the deadlock in the 69th minute courtesy of a beautiful strike from Fiston Nkinzigabo who pounced on a cross from Byiringiro Lague.
However, Simba equalized six minutes later through Adam Salamba who diverted a shot into Ntaribi Steven’s goal posts.
With a minute left on the clock, Kagere who was brought down in the goal area by centre back Aimable Nsabimana, converted the decisive penalty to send Simba to the quarter finals of the Cecafa Kagame Cup.
The loss for the military side has left them on the brink of preliminaries exit following their 1-2 loss to Singida United in their opening match.
SImba leads Group C standings with six points and a better goal difference (+5) over Singida United who defeated Dakadaha 1-0 to qualify for the quarter finals with six points too.
APR Fc and Dakadaha Fc are placed third and fourth respectively with no point and a goal deficit of -2 and -5 goals respectively.
Meanwhile, Action continues on Tuesday when Rayon Sport FC hosts AS Ports of Djibouti at Azam Sports Complex in Chamazi at 1pm while Gor Mahia will be up against Burundian side Lydia Ludic at 3pm.
Rayon Sports who drew 2-2 with Gor Mahia in their Group C opening match on Saturday must register a win over AS Ports if they are to realize their hopes of reaching the last eight.
