Rwanda on Saturday registered the second highest number of New Coronavirus cases in a week with 127 new cases and two new deaths, as the number of daily cases continue to remain high.
According to the Ministry of Health daily update, 76 of the new cases were recorded in Kigali, mainly contacts of positive cases in home based care, while Rusizi registered 12, Musanze 12, Rubavu 11, Gakenke 6, Kirehe 5, Huye 2, Kayonza 1, Rwamagana 1 and Muhanga 1.
The two deaths were recorded in Kigali -two men aged 90 and 57, bringing the total number of deaths to 59. The country has so far registered 7,232 cases since the first case was detected in March this year. Those who have recovered are now 6,089 or 84.1 percent while 1,084.
Beginning this week Rwanda tightened measures against COVID-19, with curfew time reduced from 10pm to 9pm, with directives supposed to be tightened further from December 22 as the country enters the festive days.
In the meantime, Rwanda Development Board has issued new directives that will require all guests in hotels countrywide to present a negative SARS-CoV2 Realtime Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) or Antigen Rapid COVID-19 test.

The requirement complements recent Cabinet Meeting resolutions which tightened measures against COVID-19, amid fears that the second wave sweeping across the globe could actually prove to be more severe than the first breakout registered 9 months ago.
