The People’s Republic of China has awarded scholarships to 200 Rwandan students who are expected to acquire skills the country needs most to develop further.
Sponsored students will pursue dental surgery, civil engineering, Agriculture, development studies and Electricity engineering.
These students will pursue Master’s Programs, Bachelor’s Degree and Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) respectively.
Scholarship recipients will start flying to China next week to start with the September intake.
“After getting skills in all of these fields, you are expected to come back and contribute to country development” Dr. Emanuel Muvunyi, Executive Director of Higher Education Council (HEC) said.
“Upon coming back, you should aim at having social and economic impact to the society because you have been shortlisted from priority courses,” Dr. Muvunyi said.
Marie Dusenge, a beneficiary who qualified for the dental surgery scholarship said: “This is a great opportunity. I will not take it for granted.”
Speaking at the send-off ceremony at the Embassy of China in Kigali- August 23, Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, Henry Rao Hongwei said; “It is my hope that all the scholarship recipients could take advantage of the precious opportunities to fly your dreams and write magnificent chapters of your life.”
He further said; “I’m pretty sure that you will have rewarding, fruitful and enjoyable stay in China.”
Hongwei further noted that, China-Rwanda relations have entered a new era since H. E. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, paid a historic state visit to Rwanda from 22nd to 23rd July, 2018.
Last year, China offered 12other scholarships to Rwanda in areas of Human medicine and surgery, petroleum, Aeronautics among others.
