Rwandan Ladies Eye Impressive Show In Zimbabwe

The Rwandan women cricket team seen in a recent tour to Nigeria. They will head to Zimbabwe this week for the 2019 ICC Africa World Cup Qualifiers.

The national women’s cricket team players are shaping up ahead of the 2019 ICC Africa World Cup Qualifiers.

The qualifiers, which are held after every two years, will take place in Harare, Zimbabwe from May 3 to 13, 2019.

The Rwanda senior ladies national cricket team captain Sarah Uwera said recently,

“We are aiming for an impressive performance in ICC Africa World Cup qualifiers. The training is going well. We are working hard to be ready for some really strong teams come May in Zimbabwe,”

Rwanda is drawn in Pool A alongside hosts Zimbabawe, Tanzania, Nigeria and Mozambique. Pool B is comprised of Uganda, Kenya, Namibia and Sierra Leone.

Rwanda will open her quest against Nigeria on May 5 while hosts Zimbabwe will be taking on Mozambique. Rwanda will also face Mozambique on May 8; hosts Zimbabwe on May 9 ans finally Tanzania on May 11 respectively.

If they win top honour in the qualifiers to be held at the Old Hararians and Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare, the Rwandan ladies will qualify for the ICC World Championship.

The best two teams from each pool will automatically advance to the second and final round of the qualifiers, from which; only two will secure tickets to the T20 World Cup due in Australia from February 21 to March 8, 2020.

No Rwandan cricket side, club or national team, has ever featured at a world cup event.
