Former league champions Rayon Sports FC went a point behind arch rivals APR FC after thrashing Espoir FC 4-0 on Thursday in a match day 25 encounter of the Azam Rwanda Premier League held at Stade de Kigali.
Ghana import Michael Sarpong snatched a double in the first half before Burundian Ulimwengu Jules made it 4-0 with another double in the second half.
The victory took Rayon Sports FC to 57 points, a slim one point ahead of APR FC whose campaign was cut short with a goalless draw against SC Kiyovu on Tuesday.
Ulimwengu’s goal have seen him top the goal scoring chart with 16 goals while Sarpong and Muhadjiri Hakizimana of APR Fc are joint second with 13 goals.
With five games left to the end of the season, it’s going to be a tricky battle for APR FC and Rayon Sports Fc as each seeks to lift the league title. Any shortcoming of the rivalry duo in the remaining encounters will easily hand over the title to the other rival.
Action continues on Friday as APR FC hosts AS Kigali at Stade de Kigali while Rayon Spots FC will be away to Police Fc on Sunday at Stade Amahoro in match day 26 match.
In other matches, AS Muhanga hosts SC Kiyovu at Stade Muhanga while Marines Fc will face Gicumbi FC in Rubavu District on Saturday.
Espoir Fc hosts Bugesera FC in Rusizi, Mukura VS will be home ready to face Musanze FC at Stade Huye, Kirehe FC travels to Rubavu District to face Etincelles FC while Sunrise Fc hosts Amagaju Fc in Nyagatare, all on Sunday.
