ICC Women’s Qualifier Africa: Rwanda Lose to Zimbabwe

Rwanda cricket team seen in action against Zimbabwe in Thursday’s match

Rwanda national women’s cricket team lost to hosts Zimbabwe in the third match of the on-going International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Qualifier Africa 2019 on Thursday at Harare Sports Club.

Rwanda only managed 63-8 as they fell to defeat by 82 runs with Zimbabwe who displayed a tight bowling performance posted a decent total of 145-2 from their 20 overs.

Opener Modester Mupachikwa led the way for the home side as she hit 62 off 58 balls, while Sharne Meyers chipped in with 40.

Chasing 146 to claim an unlikely victory, Rwanda could only manage 63-8 as they fell to defeat by 82 runs.

In the other match played today, Tanzania beat Mozambique by 10 wickets.

Tanzania bowled their opponents out for 40 and easily knocked off the required runs to secure a comprehensive win.

Zimbabwe’s victory set up a meeting with Namibia in the final of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Qualifier Africa 2019.

Namibia progressed to the final after defeating Sierra Leone in their last Group B fixture.

Namibia easily beat their opponents by 10 wickets at the Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare to top Group B undefeated.

Their victorious run included a win against defending champions Uganda, who were eliminated from the tournament despite a narrow four-run triumph over Kenya this morning.

The round-robin competition in Group A will conclude on Saturday (May 11) with Rwanda facing Tanzania, with the final on Sunday (May 12).

The winner will earn a place at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2020.
