The senior national beach volleyball teams (Male and Women) secured tickets to the 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships after cruising to the semi-final of the African Beach Nations Cup in Nigeria on Thursday.
The male team composed of Olivier Ntagengwa and Patrick Kavalo Akumuntu defeated South Africa 2-0 (21-18 & 21-17) to cruise into the last four of the tournament.
The women team comprised of Charlotte Nzayisenga and Benitha Mukandayisenga also defeated Botswana 2-0 (21-9 & 21-10) to seal a semi-final round slot.
With a world cup ticket in place, Rwanda men’s team face Sierra-leone in the semi-final while their women counterparts will take on Mauritius, in matches scheduled to be played on Friday afternoon.
At the end of the ongoing Africa Nations Beach Volleyball Seniors Championship for men and women in Abuja, eight nations will qualify to represent the continent at the 2019 World Championship in Hamburg Germany.
The 2019 Beach Volleyball World Championships will be held in Hamburg, Germany from June 28 to July 7, 2019 at the 13,000-seater Am Rothembaum Stadium, and
The flagship double-gender tournament will see 48 teams compete for places at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The news brings the World Championships to Germany for a second time, after Berlin played host to the tournament in 2005.
