The Social Democratic Party of Rwanda (PSD) has announced plan to construct its headquarters – becoming the second political party to have its own complex after the ruling party – RPF Inkotanyi.

From renting office space since 1991 in the Kigali central business district, PSD officials said that within two years, they will be operating from their headquarters to be built in Gahanga sector, Kicukiro district where they have acquired 13,700 square meters.

“We have already purchased land worth more than Rwf200 million and have started working on the feasibility study which includes the plan, costs and equipment that will be used in the construction project,” said Dr. Vincent Biruta the President of PSD.

PSD structure will consist of a conference arena with 1000 sitting capacity and a-4 floor commercial complex.

Funds will be raised from party members who will buy shares in this complex before the launch of construction activities early 2020.

“We shall raise funds from members using the shares model but this will depend on the cost of the project which is to be finalized and then construction starts in 2020,” said Dr. Jean Chrisostome

Ngabitsinze, PSD Secretary-General.

In a PSD meeting held on Sunday – January 6, 2019, the party also announced a five-man member committee that will follow up on the project implementation.

Dr. Biruta said that the party has spent years planning to have the facility, which will come at a time when its members have set a vision of development.

Currently, the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) Inkotanyi is the only political party in Rwanda that has managed to build headquarter – Intare Conference Arena in Rusororo sector, Gasabo district. Ten other political parties rent office space.
