Unidentified Assailants Set Fire on Three Vehicles, Killing Two Civilians in Nyamagabe

Barely a week after a militia group attacked Rwanda’s Rubavu district in Western Province, Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) has reported that unidentified attackers set fire to three passenger vehicles, killing two civilians and injuring eight in Southern part of the country.

The attack happened last night, 18:15 hrs in Cyitabi Sector of Nyamagabe District, RDF said in a statement forwarded to media.

The injured have been taken to the neighboring Kigeme Hospital for treatment, said RDF in a statement.

According to the Military Spokesperson, Lt Col Innocent Munyengango, the RDF is pursuing the attackers who fled into Nyungwe Forest.

“We have been watching the situation in this area for some time now and have a good idea of who is behind today’s incident. We are in pursuit of the attackers and action will be taken against those responsible,” he said.

“The RDF reassures the public that the road(to/from neighboring Rusizi distrcit)is now clear and safe for all traffic.

On Monday this week, Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Spokesperson Lt Col Innocent Munyengango confirmed that elements thought to be the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) militia based in DR Congo attacked Cyamabuye village, in Busasamana Sector, Rubavu district in Western Province.

Addressing journalists during a press conference on Friday, December 14, President Kagame said that Rwandan officials are in talks with authorities in DRC to get clarification on what facilitated the attack.
