The Ministry of education (Mineduc) has awarded 20 best performers in national exams whose results were released on Monday.
Mineduc released the 2018 results of Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) and Ordinary Level (O’Level).
Gihana Ishema Blessing from Kigali Parents primary school in Gasabo district and Yves Hakizimana from Saint Andre-Muhanga district were respectively first and second best student national wide.
Norine Kagoyire from Espoir de L’Avenir – Bugesera district and Agaba Emanuel of Kigali Parents School were third and fourth.
In O Level, Ishimwe Christian from Ecole des Sciences de Byimana – Ruhango district and Rutayisire Ora Gratia from Maranyundo Girls School in Bugesera district were first and second best students national wide.
Two Girls from Fawe Girls School; Isimbi Eudora and Isingizwe Denyse were respectively third and fourth.
Mineduc awarded ten best students in PLE and the top ten in O level.
“We are awarding these students to thank them for the job well done and to motivate them to always aim high through their academic life and beyond,” Dr Eugene Mutimura, the minister of Education said.
This was the first gesture ever by Mineduc, but Mutimura said, the intention is to encourage the spirit of Excellency among students.
He said that in the future, more awards will be added on the list, and these include an internship in IT companies, to help children grow with an open mind in this computer era.
Of 255,173 pupils who sat Primary six exams, 201,080 representing 81.1%, passed compared to 86.3% last year.
For the Ordinary Level, among 99,288 total candidates who registered, 80,966 representing 83.3% passed.
Students can access their examination results on phone. For PLE, candidates can write; P6 – index number and send SMS to 489.
For O-Level, a candidate will write S3 – Index number and send SMS on 489.
