Rwanda Holds Uganda to Stay in Contention for Cecafa Women Cup

Rwanda women side played a 2-all draw against Uganda to return back in contention for the Cecafa Women Challenge Cup title

Rwanda’s Women National Football came from behind to hold Uganda to a 2-all draw on the fourth day of the Cecafa Women Challenge Cup staged on Wednesday at Stade de Kigali.

The Crested Cranes snatched the opening goal in the 10th minute courtesy of Mutuuzo Lilian’s goal in the 10th minute. Rwanda equalized equalized ten minutes later through Ibangarye Anne Marie’s penalty.

However, the Ugandan side surged and through poor goalkeeping, Alupo Norah snatched the second goal for the hosts in the 74thminute.

With four minutes to stoppage time, substitute Mukeshimana Jeanette who came off the bench replacing Nyiramwiza Martha scored the equalizing goal through a long shot to ensure a point for the Rwandese hence putting them back in contention for the tournament’s title.

In an earlier game, Ethiopia defeated Kenya 1-0 courtesy of a Meselu Abera Tesfamariam’s goal scored in the 30th minute.

After today’s match day, Uganda tops the standings with 7 points and has climaxed their matches.

Ethiopia are in second place with six points followed by Tanzania in third spot who are joint on four points with Rwanda but have a better goal difference of +3 while Coach Kayiranga Jean Baptista have -1 goal difference after playing three matches.

Kenya is ranked bottom of the standings with one point in three matches played.

The tournament which is being played on a league basis ends on Friday with the top placed nation which will be having a highest number of points collected, will be crowned Champions.

Ethiopia will be up against defending champions Tanzania at 14h00 while Rwanda will be facing Kenya at 16h30 at Stade de Kigali.
