Tour du Cameroon: Uwizeyimana Claims Yellow Jersey After Stage 5 Victory

Team Rwanda rider Uwizeyimana Bonaventure claimed the yellow jersey after winning stage five of the 121.5km ride from Mbang to Bafang on Thursday at the on-going 15th Tour du Cameroon.

Uwizeyimana won the race in 3h23’37 to come ahead of Slovakia’s Varhanovsky Jakub who came in second slot after 1 minute and 20 seconds. Cameroon’s Tientcheu Michel came third after 1 minute and 21 seconds.

Rwanda’s Hadi Janvier finished fifth, coming two minutes and twenty nine seconds behind Uwizeyimana.

Another Rwandan Ukiniwabo Jean Paul Rene managed a 10th slot finish to come four minutes and fifty eight seconds behind his fellow Rwandan winner Uwizeyimana hence claiming the white jersey for the best young rider.

Uwizeyimana’s victory saw him claim the yellow jersey after taking control of the standings in a total time of 13h52’33.

Other Rwandans in the top ten standings of the General standings include fifth-placed Byukusenge Patrick and sixty-placed Ukiniwabo Jean Paul Rene.

Action continues on Friday afternoon as riders will cover a total distance of 98 kilometres in Bafoussam.
