Rwanda’s league champions Rayon Sports FC have been drawn in Group B of the 2018 CECAFA-Kagame Cup scheduled for June 28-July 13 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Rayon Sports FC has been drawn against Kenya’s Gor Mahia, and fellow CAF Confederation Cup Group D opponent, Burundi’s Lydia Ludic and Ports Fc of Djibouti.
Rayon Sports FC and Gor Mahia played a goalless draw in the opening match of Group D held in Kigali in May.
Group A is comprised of Tanzania side Azam FC, JKU of Zanzibar, Kator FC of South Sudan and a Ugandan side which is yet to be confirmed.
Group C which is seems to be Group of death consists of Tanzanian rivals Yanga and Simba, Ethiopia’s St George and Dakadaha of Somalia.
Rayon Sports’s Group B campaign will begin on Sunday, July 1 when they take on Gor Mahia at the National Stadium, before facing Ports FC of Djibouti on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Chamazi stadium before climaxing their group stage campaign against Lydia Ludic of Burundi on July 4, 2018 at Chamazi stadium.
The top two teams in each group and the best two losers will qualify for the quarter final which is set for July 8 with eventual winners proceeding to the semi final round on July 11 while the winner will be crowned on July 13 at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The regional tourney is returning back after a two-year break after Kenyan champions Gor Mahia lost 2-0 to Azam FC in the final
Djibouti was the initial host but it is believed the tournament’s broadcast partner Azam TV influenced the change for security reasons.
