Cricket family mourns Uwimanishaka

Rwanda’s Promising International batsman Prince Uwimanishaka passed away on Sunday at Kibagabaga Hospital.

The Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) said in an statement on Monday morning, “It is with deep sorrow and pain that Rwanda cricket Association announce the untimely death of one of the most promising players of the National team Prince Uwimanishaka that occurred yesterday, Sunday afternoon at Kibagabaga Hospital in Kigali.”

“It is a very sad moment for Rwanda Cricket Association as we have lost a very promising player who had a bright future ahead of him,” the statement reads.

Former Rwanda Cricket Association President Charles Haba said, “Saddened by the shocking death of 21-year-old Rwanda international Prince Uwimanishaka. Great loss to the cricket fraternity. Explosive middle order batsman gone too soon.”

The cause of his death is still unknown but unconfirmed reports indicate that the 21-year old youngster was recovering from malaria but looked fit on Sunday morning.

At the time of his death, Uwimanishaka was a member of Telegu Royals Cricket club and was part of the National team squad that was preparing for the ICC World T20 Africa qualifier from 5th–15th July 2018.

Two weeks ago, he was one the outstanding players during the Zambia Tour to Rwanda and was a crowd favorite.

Uwimanishaka will be laid to rest on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, 4pm at Rusororo Cemetery. May his Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.
