Bank of Kigali (BK) – Rwanda’s biggest bank by assets has announced 25 best entrepreneurs to benefit from a six months training as part of the lender’s 50th anniversary.
The list was made public on June 27.
According to BK officials, the training scheduled to kick-off early July this year will be based on fundamental business factors including; book keeping, tax management, Marketing Competition management etc.
Of the 25 beneficiaries of the training, five people will be selected to share BK’s Rwf60 million interest-free loan to boost their projects.
Urumuri initiative aims at discovering new ideas with potential business men and women to broaden their business also dubbed ‘next big thing’.
The word ‘Urumuri’ means ‘light.’ So the initiative, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) office, is Bank of Kigali’s way of holding a light up for Rwanda’s brilliant start-ups to find their way on the tough road to success, Bank of Kigali Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Diane Karusisi the bank.
Last month, BK called for this years’ Urumuli initiative application business competition and over 100 companies applied but only 25 have been selected for the next level (training level).
Inkomoko development firm – a business research firm partnered with BK to select these companies basing on different aspects including; supporting made in Rwanda program and the value of the project has to society while registration of the project was done by Rwanda Development Board(RDB).
Dr Karusisi said the initiative (Urumuli) is a brilliant business sustainability strategy, adding that the Bank is using part of its success in banking to help foster the success of other businesses.
“Our profit is seeing these companies progressing and developing into big projects. This also helps in getting employment for the jobless in the country,” Karusisi added.
