The Director General of Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB), Dr. Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe has been suspended from his duties, KT Press has learnt.
According to officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Dr. Bagabe was suspended following a cabinet decision last Friday, January 19th 2018.
“Yes, he was suspended by the cabinet meeting held last Friday on 19th of January this year,” Ange Soubirous Tambineza, Agriculture Ministry Spokesperson told KT Press.
Dr. Bagabe’s suspension comes three months after four top RAB officials including former Deputy Director General, Dr. Daphrosa Gahakwa were suspended by the Prime Minister.
Dr. Gahakwa was suspended with three other staff including; Innocent Nzeyimana, Head of Land Husbandry, Irrigation and Mechanization Department, Violette Nyirasangwa, Head of Corporate Services Division and Theogene Bimenya who was in charge of finance.
A source within Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB) who spoke on condition of anonymity cited an ongoing managerial crisis, disagreements, abuse of office and mismanagement of public funds among the ‘serious’ issues affecting the country’s Agriculture think tank.
“There has been a serious disagreement between top managers here. As you have seen the top leaders being asked to step down, the storm has taken several other senior and junior employees here,” the source told KT Press.
Dr. Patrick Karangwa – head of research at Rwanda Agriculture Board has been appointed an interim Director General.
The Parliamentary Public Accounts Commitee (PAC) 2014-2015 report discovered 35 serious mistakes committed by RAB top management and summoned its leaders.
Before joining RAB, Dr. Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe served as the Director General of Rwanda Standards Board (RSB).
Prior to RSB, he was also DG of former ISAR which later change to RAB after a merger of several institutions.
