The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) secretariat has confirmed the dates when the CECAFA U-17 tournament will be held in Burundi.
The development was confirmed by the CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye after holding an inspection visit in the Burundian capital, Bujumbura over the weekend.
“Preparations for the CECAFA U-17 tournament are underway and in advanced stages. The tournament will be held in Burundian capital, Bujumbura from March 19-April 14, 2018,”
The Burundi Football Federation (FFB)’s president of the competitions, Mossi Yussuf said that Musonye was in Burundi to make an inspection visit to the stadiums and hotels that will host players and other participants from CECAFA country members.
Yussuf said three stadiums namely the Urukundo stadium of Ngozi, Umuco stadium of Muyinga and Gitega stadium were chosen to host the competition which will take place in Burundi from 29 March to 14 April 2018.
Eight countries from East and Central Africa namely Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti, Zanzibar and Tanzania Mainland have confirmed their participation while South Sudan and Rwanda are yet to confirm their participation.
This is the second time Burundi hosts CECAFA U-17 championship. It hosted the first edition in 2007 and the second edition was hosted by Kenya in 2009.
