Uganda, Zimbabwe name Squads for CECAFA Challenge Cup

Group B rivals Uganda and Zimbabwe named their squads for this year’s CECAFA Challenge Cup tournament which begins on Sunday in Kenya.

Ugandan coach Moses Basena has assembled a squad of 26 players to start training on Wednesday ahead of the regional tournament.

The team will be trimmed to 23 players who will travel on Saturday.

Only one foreign based player has been named on the team. Simba defender Murushid Jjuuko, a member of the Uganda Cranes team at the AFCON 2017 in Gabon is the only foreign based player.

Opponents Zimbabwe also named their squad named a twenty nine Warriors team for the tournament. The Warriors have included the Yanga SC striker Donald Ngoma as the only foreign-based professional in the coach Sunday Chidzambga’s squad.

Sunday will be assisted by Rahman Gumbo of Chicken Inn and Dynamos’ Lloyd Mtasa.

The 2017 edition of the regional tourney starts Sunday 3rd to 19th December with ten teams taking part.

Zimbabwe are pulled alongside defending champions Uganda, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Burundi in B of the tournament.
