Pre-season 2017: REG, Patriots face-off in Semi-final

Rival reigning champion Patriots and league champions Rwanda Energy Group (REG) will face-off in a mouth-watering semi-final clash of the on-going FERWABA pre-season tournament over the weekend.

The first semi-final will pit former champions and rejuvenated military side APR BBC against IPRC Kigali on Saturday, November 25 at 16:00 before REG clashes with Patriots BBC at 18:00, all matches will be played at Amahoro indoor stadium.

APR BBC finished unbeaten in three matches to with six points, in a Group A which consisted of Patriots, IPRC South and UGB. In their last game played on Wednesday, APR BBC defeated Patriots 96-76.

Patriots BBC finished second with five points while IPRC South and UGB finished with four and three points each.

In Group B, REG finished atop unbeaten too to amass six points with IPRC Kigali finishing second with five points after registering win over Espoir BBC 78-69 and 30 Plus 78-64 and lost to table leaders REG BBC 79-88.

APR BBC’s Mbanze Brian tops the goal scorers’ chart with 20 points and is followed by Sagamba Sedar from Patriots with 19 points while Ruzigande Ally (APR BBC) and Hakizimana Lionel (Patriots BBC) have 17 and 15 points respectively.

Last year, Patriots BBC won the title after edging REG 76-75 in the finals.

In the women category, IPRC South maintained a clean sheet in the round-robin action to amass four points after registering victories over The Hoops Rw 66-39 and Ubumwe BBC 65-50. IPRC South will face APR BBC in the final on Sunday while Ubumwe BBC will take on The Hoops in the battle for a third place play-off.

Finals are scheduled to be played on Sunday at Amahoro Indoor Stadium court.

The FERWABA Pre-season tournament doubles as a preparation stint for the upcoming 2017/18 National Basketball League season scheduled to start on December 1, 2017.
