After Ernest Sugira was named among the CHAN best players last year, the injured Amavubi Striker will miss out the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya on December 3rd to 17th, 2017.
“It is bad that I will not play during Cecafa, because I have not started training with the team. It will take me sometime to be able to run,” Ernest Sugira told KT Press.
Sugira 27, suffered severe leg injury on August 18th while training in preparation for the return leg against Uganda Cranes for CHAN qualifiers tournament this season at Nyamirambo stadium.
He was rushed to King Faisal hospital in capital Kigali where he spent four months nursing the injury. The professional striker told KT Press that he is improving on a daily basis thanks to the contribution of several people and hopes to recover quickly.
Meanwhile, the net buster is expected to be back on the pitch before June 2018 as Rwanda hosts Ivory Coast in the African Cup Qualifiers due on June 5th – 13th in Cameroon.
“I think I will be fit during the CHAN opening tournament next year in June. I thank the team for maintaining the game spirit and hope to join them soon,” Sugira told KT Press.
Ernest Sugira joined the national team in 2013 and ever since, he never missed any international game with Amavubi Stars. He is currently on the contract of the military side, APR FC.
