Ethiopia’s First Lady Roman Tesfaye has commended Rwanda’s efforts in restoring dignity of women and children who have been victims of abuse.
Tesfaye today visited Isange One Stop Center (IOSC) at Kacyiru District Hospital, in Kigali where she signed in the visitors’ book after getting a guided tour of the services offered at the centre.
“I visited the One Stop Centre and found it is comprehensive and humanity is best expressed. Am grateful for those who contributed for the establishment and functioning as well. God bless you all for your good and justice deeds,” Tesfaye said.
Isange One – Stop Centre offers free medical, legal and counselling services to victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Child abuse.
Isange centre started as a pilot project in 2009. It has since expanded to 28 other district hospitals across the country and so far 15,000 victims have received help- with 87% female, and 57% children below 18 years.
Isange has facilitated the public with easy means of communication with a toll-free line – 3029 – which has been essential in getting information from the affected.
IOSC is a Multi – sectoral and interdisciplinary program implemented by the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion, Ministry of Health, Rwanda National Police and the Ministry of Justice.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and First Lady Roman Tesfaye arrived in Kigali, on April 27, 2017 for a three – day state visit.
