A local poultry farm, Abusol Ltd Rwanda, could soon put to and end the massive importation of eggs.

The firm, sitting on a 14-hectare land with its own animal feed factory will accommodate 25,000 chicken in Bugesera district.

Jean Baptiste Musabyimana, the Managing Director and owner of Abusol Ltd, says the first phase of this agribusiness project is worth Rwf1 billion.

Musabyimana says he has ventured into poultry business from the obvious realisation that Rwanda lacks a well-developed poultry industry.

Rwanda imports about 300,000 eggs from Uganda alone every week and 150,000 day-old chicks every month from Uganda, Belgium and Holland.

“Our intention is to bring high quality eggs to the market, but also assist farmers around here to lift the poultry business to a level of a successful performing industry,” Musabyimana says.

His, intends to introduce modern technologies in rising chickens and producing quality animal feeds and training local farmers on modern poultry farming.

Rwanda is intensifying efforts to increase private sector investment in agricultural production.

From the above writeup, it seems the import of eggs to Rwanda was about 300,000 daily in 2016. What is the outlook now for the supply-demand gap?
