Rwanda has announced Fuel prices increase of Rwf 30(U$ 0.04) to Rwf 840 (1.21) up from Rwf 810 ($1.17).
The Ministry of Trade and industry which regulates prices said in a statement that the change will take effect from Saturday, May 9th 2015.
“The rise in fuel prices is a result of a rise in fuel prices at international market,” said Trade Minister, Francois Kanimba.
Fuel prices at the market have increased by 14% since February on the international market.
The increase interrupts a gradual decrease the country has been enjoying since late last year, when prices per liter dropped by $0.05 and $0.09 in November and December respectively.
“For us, an increase, whatever small affects our business. We wish prices can stabilize,” suggests Abdala Kayiranga, a taxi driver.
The last six months of gradual decrease of fuel price has not affected prices of commodities.
Rwanda, a landlocked country, depends on the Kenyan port of Mombasa and the Tanzanian port of Dar-es Salaam for its oil and related product imports.
