Prosper Higiro 54, a former challenger of Paul Kagame in the 2010 presidential elections, has been elected the head of the ParliamentaryForum for the International Conference on Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR).
He was elected as FP-ICGLR Executive Secretary Tuesday, January 21, during the Forum’s general assembly held in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.
The FP-ICGLR is a framework of dialogue between parliamentary institutions among the 11 members states of ICGLR. It supports governments’ efforts in development and conflict prevention.
Higiro, who was a flag bearer for the Liberal Party (PL), only obtained 1.37% of the vote during the 2010 presidential elections, which were won by Paul Kagame of Rwanda Patriotic Front by a landslide with 93%.
The Rwandan politician has also served the incumbent government in various capacities including; working extensively as Minister of Commerce, Industry and Handcraft , then Vice President of Rwandan Senate (2003-2010), among other portfolios.
