Kagame Appoints Col. Nyamvumba Head of Newly Created Intelligence Department

Newly promoted Col. Andrew Nyamvumba

President Paul Kagame, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of armed forces, has created a new department – the Defence Intelligence Department.

The President also promoted Lt.Col. Andrew Nyamvumba to full Colonel and appointed him Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) for the department.

The newly created department was formerly known as J2.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in a communique signed by Rwanda Defence Force.

Previously, Col. Nyamvumba served as Head Strategy and Policy in the office of the President.

In January this year, President Paul Kagame also promoted former Lt. Gen Fred Ibingira to the rank of full General. Ibingira is the Chief of Staff – Reserve Forces.
