Another Gang Attack on Rwanda from Burundi

Burial in Nyabimata sector, Nyaruguru district of Joseph Habarurema, a man that criminals attacking from Nyungwe killed last week for refusing to indicate them the home of the executive secretary of the sector

The Rwanda National Police confirmed Monday that a group of armed men entered Rwanda last night on a mission to loot and commit other crimes from Burundi.

The armed criminals intruded in Nyaruguru district, Nyabimata sector in a village called Cyamuzi of Ruhinga cell at 11.30PM, says the police in a statement.

“The criminals looted citizen’s belonging including livestock and food products and fired bullets in the air to scare the community,” reads part of police’s communiqué.

“They kidnapped some residents of the area and ordered them to carry what they had looted and only released them after the intervention of the security officers.”

The car of executive secretary was set ablaze in the previous attack

Police further write that “those criminals attacked from Burundi passing through the Nyungwe forest and returned from this same route.”

This happens in less than two weeks after a similar attack took place in the same district.

On June 19 in wee hours, armed men attacked the village of Mwegere, Nyabimata sector in Nyaruguru district. They injured the executive secretary of Nyabimata sector, put on fire his car and a motorcycle.

They also killed one Joseph Habarurema after refusal to indicate to them the home of the executive secretary before returning to their base through Nyungwe forest as security organs intervened.

Prior to this incident of last night, there was no confirmation on the origin of the criminals- though the proximity of the Burundi border would suggest they are coming from the neighbouring country.

That thinking would also be reinforced by the latest incidence in Bugarama sector where criminals attacked, looted in Rwanda from Burundi.
