Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) opened their African club championship account with a 3-1 (25-18, 15-25, 25-21, 25-14) win against Nyong volleyball club from Cameroun in their Pool A’s opening game on Wednesday.

The first set started strong and an evenly matched few points led RRA ahead of Nyong.

RRA kept up the lead, celebrating a win of 25-18. A few dodgy serves in the second set put Revenue one step behind Nyong, which they struggled to claw back throughout the set.

Mukantambara was RRA top scorer and she made Nyong defense to suffered and this was not quite easy for Nyong and they went on winning the match 3-1

In another pool A match which was played on Tuesday, hosts and record holders Ahly started their 2018 Women’s African Club Championship in the right foot after they topped Uganda’s Nkumba University in straight sets (25-7, 25-12, 25-16).

Ahly dominated the match completely although their coach fielded all the squad during the three sets.

Ukrainian Katenya Silchnkova led the scorers with 12 points, while Habiba Nawala led the losers with 8 points.

Action continues on Thursday when Rwanda Revenue Authority takes on Al Ahly in a tough duel which will be played at night (20h00) in Cairo.

Besides hosts and record holders Al Ahly who have won eight titles and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), Pool A is also comprised of Ugandan champions Nkumba University and Cameroon side Nyong (Cameroon).

Rwanda Revenue Authority’s best result at the continental championships was in 2016 when they reached the semi-finals before losing to defending champions Ahly of Egypt 3-0 (25-10, 25-15 and 25-9), who set up a final clash against Carthage of Tunisia.

RRA also reached the quarter-finals in 2015, and were ranked sixth overall.
