Roadmap for FERWAFA Presidential Poll Released

The presidential polls for the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) will be held on March 31, 2018 at Lemigo Hotel in Kigali City.

The FERWAFA General Assembly will elect the new President alongside the Executive Committee who will serve a four-year term from 2018-2021.

The date for the presidential election was announced late last month by the FERWAFA Executive Committee following a decision to hold fresh elections after the lone aspirant Rwemalika Fecilite failed to meet the majority vote in the elective general assembly which was held on December 30, 2017.

But speaking at a news conference at Rwanda Football Federation, Adolphe Kalisa, the president of the Football Electoral body, detailed the electoral roadmap.

Kalisa said that the electoral commission will be receiving applications for presidential candidates on February 19, 2018 and the final list of candidates will be announced on March 9, 2018.

Campaigns for the qualified candidates will officially begin on March 12, 2018 and end on March 30, just a day before the elections.

Any Rwandan willing to aspire for the position in the executive committee of Rwanda Football Federation is required to be aged 28 and no more than 70 years old according to article 20 on the eligibility requirement drawn from the federation’s internal regulations.

It further states that this person should be a person of integrity, have experience and skills and have provided outstanding services to football, should have a command of at least two working languages of the federation, not having been convicted and jailed for more than six months, not having been formally suspended by a judicial organ of FERWAFA, CAF and FIFA.

The eligibility requirements also includes having at least completed six years of secondary studies or equivalent with a diploma, having been active in football (as a player or official of FERWAFA for two of the five years preceding the filing of his candidature and having been recommended by a member of the FERWAFA.

The term of office for the Executive Committee which will be elected on March 31 will be four years renewable three times only.

The roadmap to the 2018 FERWAFA presidential elections is as follows;

February 19, 2018: Submission of Nomination forms

February 28, 2018: Scrutinizing candidates’ nomination files

March 08, 2018: Receiving petitions and hearing appeals if any

March 09, 2018: Declaration of Candidates

March 12-30, 2018: Official campaigning period of declared candidates

March 31, 2018, 14:00: Elections & Announcing theFERWAFA Executive Committee

April 3, 2018: Submission of election report
