Performance at the Next Einstein Forum

Over 70 global speakers and brains in science and research are expected to unveil breakthroughs in science, respond to existing challenges and look to the future of science in addressing global challenges.

Rwanda was chosen to host the 2nd edition of the Next Einstein Forum (NEF) Global Gathering 2018.

NEF is a platform that brings together leading thinkers in science, policy, industry and civil society in Africa to leverage science to solve global challenges.

Founded in 2013, by the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) President and CEO Thierry Zomahoun.

NEF was launched by two key partners – AIMS and Robert Bosch Stiftung.

The forum is expected to take place on March 26-28 2018, under the patronage of President Paul Kagame.

Expected speakers include Thierry Zomahoun, AIMS President and CEO & NEF Founder, Nobel Laureate Prof. Dr. Klaus von Klitzing, Director, Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research Stuttgart, Germany.

Rwanda’s former ministers Professor Romain Murenzi who is currently Executive Director of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and Agnes Kalibata, President, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) will also give views of how their institutions have grown in the field of Science.

Other panelists include  Paul Stoffels, Chief Scientific Officer of Johnson and  Johnson; Peter Agre – Professor and Director of the Malaria Research Institute at the Bloomberg School of Public Health; and Solomon Assefa, Director of IBM Research – Africa.

Over 1000 participants are expected to take place in the three day event which will also have 40percent women representation and personalities below the age of 42.

NEF is an initiative of The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS)- which had its headquarters moved in Kigali in 2016, formerly in Cape Town, South Africa.

Officially inaugurated by President Paul Kagame the institute held its maiden graduation last year, conferring Master’s degree in Mathematical Sciences to 44 students – including 15 females who completed a 10-month intensive program at Kigali Campus.

The first intake at the Kigali’s Centre of Excellency enrolled in Pure Mathematics, the 2018 intake will focus on co-operative mathematics – where students will do field research and practical mathematics.

“We will be taking up PhD students interacting regionally and globally on key problems in the climate science area which is important in Rwanda and in the world,” said Professor Barry Green, AIMS President and Chief Academic and Research officer during the graduation.

In the meantime, NEF is looking for Tech and Science Champions, including social scientists, to become NEF Ambassadors to represent and move the initiative’s agenda from any country.

Amazingly good for our modern society; and no better timing than now.
The presence/representation of the University of Rwanda shall be essential.
Thumbs up!
