Kagame Eulogises Prof Calestous Juma

Late Prof.  Calestous Juma made a great contribution in Education and new technology, including One Laptop per Child Program 

President Paul Kagame has sent condolences to the family of US-based Kenyan scholar Calestous Juma.

“Saddened to hear of the passing of Prof Calestous Juma. We have lost a brilliant mind who was dedicated to innovation, education and Africa’s prosperity. Condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace,” President Kagame wrote on his twitter handle.

Prof Calestous Juma died this afternoon while undergoing treatment in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Harvard professor was listed in the inaugural list of “2017 Most Reputable People on Earth”.

Until his death, he was teaching at Harvard University.

“Prof has been unwell for the past two years and today we received the sad news of his passing. Any more details will come from his family,” Kenyan based Daily Nation quoted his lawyer Peter Wanyama as saying.

Daily Nation also said, the late Professor was not able to attend burial of his mother who also passed away two weeks ago.

In 2012, 2013 and 2014 Prof Celestous Juma was listed among the most influential 100 Africans by the New African magazine.

He served in several boards and institutions which achieve technological innovations, including One Laptop Per Child which has tremendously transformed education in Rwanda.

His other researches on broadband, internet and cyber security also make him a personality that helped shape East Africa and Rwanda as far as new technology innovations is concerned.
