Nigeria’s Super Eagles local team is currently undergoing preparations in Abuja.

Nigeria’s local Super Eagles fitness coach Okechukwu Akas has expressed his fears at his team’s poor fitness levels ahead of their 2018 African Nations Championship opening match against Rwanda due in January in Tangier, Morocco.

The Super Eagles squad assembled for training on 27 December 2018 and according to Nigeria media, Akas insisted the players are not fully fit and are unprepared for the competition.

“They are a little bit rusty, but in the coming days we can do a lot,” Akas told ScoreNigeria.

However, head coach Salisu Yusuf assured the Nigerian public that the team will be ready for the CHAN tournament.

“We have done the needful; we train as expected of every hard working team to blend for good results,” said Yusuf.

“The team is up and going, and I am confident that they are in form and on top of their game to play matches satisfactorily in CHAN.

“If good results are achieved through preparations and hard work, then know that we will have no opposition in CHAN.” Added Salisu.

Nigeria face Rwanda in the opening match of four-team Group C at Grande Stade de Tanger on January 15, 2018 at 19:30 after the Libya vs Equatorial Guinea.

Rwanda will then take on Equatorial Guinea on January 19 before concluding her group stage encounter against Libya on January 23, 2018.

The top two teams in Group C will proceed to the last eight.

The fifth edition of the tournament designed exclusively for footballers playing in their domestic leagues will be held from 13 January to 4 February 2018 in the Moroccan cities Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangier and Agadir.
