Total CHAN 2018: Rwanda draws Nigeria, Libya, Eq. Guinea

The Rwanda men’s senior local team have been placed in Group C alongside Nigeria, Libya and Equatorial Guinea at the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Tangier, Morocco.

The draw ceremony was held on Friday night in Rabat, Morocco.

Group C matches will be played in the city of Tangier.

Meanwhile, hosts Morocco are in Group A with Mauritania, Guinea and Sudan. The four countries will do battle in Casablanca.

Teams in Group B which are Cote d’lvoire , Namibia, Uganda and Zambia will slug it out in Marrakech.

Agadir will be the home of Group D teams which includes Burkina Faso, Angola , Congo and Cameroon.

Rwanda reached the quarter final of the 2016 edition which was held in Kigali, Libya won the championship in 2014, beating Ghana in the final while Nigeria failed to make it beyond the group stage at the last edition.

Nigeria’s best performance in the competition was a third place finish at the 2014 edition in South Africa.

Rwanda will start her contest against Nigeria on January 15, 2018 in a second group game after Libya takes on Equatorial Guinea.

On the second day, Libya will take on Nigeria while Rwanda face Equatorial Guinea while their last match will be against Libya on January 23 before Equatorial Guinea takes on Nigeria.

The opening match of the competition will be played between Morocco and Mauritania at the newly refurbished Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca on January 13.

The top two teams in each group will proceed to the last eight.

The competition which is designed for players plying their trade in their country’s domestic league will end on February 4.

Group A (Casablanca): Morocco, Guinea, Sudan and Mauritania

Group B (Marrakech):Cote d’Ivoire, Zambia, Uganda and Namibia

Group C (Tangier): Libya, Nigeria, Rwanda and Equatorial Guinea

Group D (Agadir): Angola, Cameroon, Congo and Burkina Faso
